Audiologists use specialized equipment to obtain accurate results about hearing loss. These tests are typically conducted in sound-treated rooms with calibrated equipment. Immitance testing assesses the function of the ear drum and middle ear. Audiometirc testing determines the type and degree of hearing loss. Hearing aids are recommended based on the patient's hearing loss, communication needs, lifestyle and other miscellaneous factors. The audiologist is essential in determining the appropriate device.
